It is with great sadness that I post this and I normally wouldn't dwell on other peoples losses, but we have had so much to do with Paradise Homestead We have had so many good times there and have taken so many good friends to visit that I felt I should let you all know of the tragic loss through fire today. Our love goes out to everyone involved with the Homestead. You can follow the news here: Radio New Zealand News
It's that time of the year again when all us seafood lover's tastebuds get going for the opening of the Oyster season. This weekend once again sees the annual event the Bluff Oyster Festival take place in the rustic seaside town of Bluff in New Zealand's far south. Chris McLennan is one of New Zealand's best known travel and tourism photographers, an ambassador for Nikon. He is also well known for his wildlife photography and manages to capture stunning images on his travels around the world.
He recently hosted a wildlife photo tour with my friend Dean Fitzpatrick's Wildlight Safaris company in Namibia and Botwana. Whilst there he created this video explaining the equipment he uses and what is involved in photographing wildlife. It's a great video and the photographs he features are just awesome.
Take a look at: Chris McLennan's Wildlife video.

I am 'so' proud to be able to call New Zealand my home. When you see videos created like this, it makes you realise how you lucky you are to be able to live in such a beautiful place as New Zealand. Watch this timelapse video and make up your mind. Timelapse on New Zealand.
Always take a more detailed look at what you are seeing. These two photographs have been taken from the same spot, but have a very different look. The wider of the two was taken with the lens set at 60mm, slightly more than the human eye would naturally see. In the other, the lens has been set at 150mm, not a particularly long lens, but a sufficient difference to alter the look of the photograph. This article from Nikon explains things a little further, have a look at Focal length and angle of view
This Hobbit featurette from ‘The Desolation of Smaug’ has footage shot in Paradise and the Dart Valley, showing Beorn's house. Paradise is just one of the areas we visit during our Paradise Pictures Photo Tours. Have a look at the link below and watch out for the segment on Paradise. You'll recognize the view above as being the background to Beorn's house. Come and see it for yourselves, join one of our tours, it certainly is paradise. Cheers. Laurence
